Responsible Building: Eco-Concrete for a Greener World

WM Thompson & Sons • 21 June 2023

As the climate crisis continues to become increasingly prevalent we must try to do our bit for the planet. Of course, you can do this in a whole range of ways but one of the most important things to do is build sustainably. The building industry is well known for its damage to the environment and it is no secret that normally materials like concrete are the worst offenders. So, in this blog, we’re going to explore a few methods that might help your project become more sustainable and cost-effective. Keep reading to learn more!

Sourcing materials locally

We all know that mileage and travel can be one of the most damaging things for the environment and we must try to reduce this if we want to help the planet. Usually, when it comes to building we source our materials from far and wide as we often opt for cheaper prices over distance. Though if you do have it in your budget to spend a little extra in places then we would highly recommend purchasing local materials. What’s more, you will also be supporting local businesses and trade! Local businesses often struggle to compete with the larger corporations so giving them a helping hand is always a great idea.

Choose natural

Working with natural materials is often a steadfast way of keeping your environmental impact as low as possible. Of course, when it comes to some items and areas of the construction this will be impossible. However, where you can, you should attempt to use natural materials. Natural options can be a great addition to the design of your home as well as many options are extremely popular at the moment. Take timber cladding for example, this form of wall covering is incredibly versatile and very stylish so it would be a great addition to your building.

eco-friendly concrete

Concrete products are well known for the damage which they can cause to the environment and trying to keep on top of this is of course a priority. There are many things you can do to try and reduce your concrete impact but one of the most reliable is to use recycled concrete. This will vastly reduce the impact that your concrete will have on the environment and make your building project a great deal more sustainable. So, make sure that you get your hands on some eco-friendly concrete for your project so you can do your bit for our planet!
