Green Concrete: Building Responsibly for the Future

WM Thompson & Sons • 21 June 2023

There is no doubt that the future of the building industry is in safe hands and the industry certainly looks as if it will continue to progress. After all, there are a whole host of new projects throughout the world that promise to bring something new to both our knowledge of the design and the local area’s landscape. This is, of course, extremely exciting but there is another important aspect of construction which seems to be witnessing a revolution. Eco-conscious construction is an increasingly important aspect of the building industry as it is one of the most effective ways to help save the environment.

Why environmental construction is important

The fact is that we find ourselves in a climate crisis and we must act now to save the planet from warming beyond repair. The increased temperatures have caused a variety of issues but some of the most severe are rising sea levels, mass extinction and increased natural disasters. As we have mentioned there are many things about our daily routine that we can all change to help the environment but one of the most serious challenges is the building industry. When building new homes or extensions we must try to keep these projects as low-impact as possible. So, what is the future?

Renewable energy

It goes without saying really that renewable energy is the future. This kind of power will give back to the environment all while powering our homes and businesses. When you are building a new home you should try to incorporate renewable energy into your plans somehow. A few ideas include adding solar panels to your roof or perhaps even a small wind turbine in your garden. Whichever option you choose you can be assured that this is the future. Soon most homes and buildings will have some form of renewable energy producer on the premises. So, what else can you do to help the planet?

eco friendly concrete

Concrete is unquestionably one of the most damaging building materials when purchased normally which is why many industries try not to use so much of it. Though the truth is that the material is essential for many jobs so how can you get around this issue? Well, this is where eco-friendly concrete comes in. This kind of concrete uses recycled materials which cuts down waste and helps to give back to the environment. Certainly, if you’re planning a new construction project then make sure you use eco-friendly materials.
