Five Uses For Ready-Mix Concrete

William Thompson & Son • 23 June 2022

Utilised across several different industries in an endless stream of applications, concrete is one of the most versatile and popular materials on the planet. Here, we take a closer look at five essential uses for ready-mix concrete.

Foundations

A vital material used in the construction industry, primarily as the foundations for homes, basement conversions and conservatories, ready-mix concrete is considered a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for construction. Ready-mix concrete is used in the industry as it helps in reducing material consumption, providing little to no waste, whilst all surplus materials can be easily recycled.

Roads

Used as a key material in road surfaces since the early 80s, ready-mix concrete has steadily become a popular alternative to asphalt due to the fact it is considered more durable and less prone to cracks, typically requiring far less maintenance. Concrete is used in road surfaces primarily for this reason, with many surfaces lasting for decades after installation, with little to no ongoing maintenance work required.

Footpaths

Much like roads, footpaths are a brilliant material for public footpaths, pavements and walkways due to the strength and durability provided by concrete, as well as the reduced levels of maintenance required. Concrete will reduce cracks, lesions or potholes and is generally used in both countryside and coastal paths up and down the country.

Driveways

Much like roads or public footpaths, concrete is regularly used as a material for driveways, due in no small part to its excellent durability, flexibility and the relatively low maintenance required in the long term. Concrete has high load bearing capabilities and can offer great strength, therefore suitable for a range of vehicles, making it the perfect material for your driveway at home.

Walls

With great strength and versatility, concrete is used as a key material construction regularly and is, therefore, a highly essential and common material in both walls and flooring. Better still, concrete can be mixed to a density of your choosing, meaning you can alter your ready-mix concrete depending on the specification of the building or project, practically guaranteeing the necessary levels of stability and durability upon installation. Ready-mix concrete flooring is the ideal flooring solution for warehouses, commercial industries and factories across the world, thanks once again to the high level of durability and lack of maintenance needed to ensure it remains safe and stable.
