What Do Quarries Produce?

William Thompson & Son • 16 May 2022

Quarries are a necessary part of the construction industry and they produce a wide variety of products. Each quarry specialises in a type of rock that is found where it’s located, but may have more than one type of rock. For example, there are quarries that produce quartz, granite, slate, and more.

However, they don’t merely extract the rock as is. It is often cut and turned into products that can be used in the construction industry.

Products Produced by a Quarry

While stone is what is being extracted from the quarry, it can be turned into various products. These include:

Aggregates

As stone is removed and cut, it leaves small chips and pieces that can be used as aggregate as is or can be sorted through and crushed into smaller

pieces of crushed stone. Aggregates can range from chunks of stone to finely ground sand.

Aggregates can be used in construction as part of the concrete mix, as well as for laying paths. This type of stone is also used in drainage applications.

Paving Stones

Large, flat stones in various sizes and shapes can be used to create a path. These paving stones may also be used for a patio or a different type of

sidewalk outside your home. Whatever your needs, the quarry can cut the stones to fit.

Building Blocks

Planning to create a wall or short fence from stone? Why not select building blocks or armour stones from the quarry? Again, these can be cut to the

size you need, making it simple to build exactly the size and shape you like. If all is done well, you will have a stylish piece of wall to enjoy once you’ve completed the construction work.

Recycled Aggregates

You may also find recycled aggregates at the quarry of your choice. This is when they take crushed concrete or stone, as well as sand and turn it into aggregates that are suitable for reuse. It’s a good way to build an eco-friendly project. Recycled aggregates are frequently used in road construction.
